Sony will noch dieses Jahr die maximale Kapazität seines Memory Stick Pro Duo Speichermediums von bisher maximal 2 GB auf 8 GB schrauben. Damit möchte man dem zukünftig immer größer werdenden Daten, wie zum Beispiel hochauflösenden Bildern und Videos, gerecht werden. Um die immer größer werdenden Daten auch verarbeiten zu können soll sich auch die Geschwindigkeit mit der diese Daten auf die Speicherkarte geschrieben und gelesen werden deutlich erhöhen. Die bisher verfügbaren 2 GB großen Memory Stick Pro Duo reichen für aktuelle Anwendungen und Endgeräte aus, werden zukünftig aber an ihre Grenzen stoßen. Ein genauer Termin ist bisher nicht bekannt und auch mit technischen Details hält sich Sony bisher zurück.
